Life in the UK Test day: what to bring and what to expect
Updated 2026-10-31 · Unofficial guide · Always confirm details with GOV.UK
On test day, bring the same ID you used to book. Arrive early, go through check-in, take the 45-minute test on a computer, and receive your result at the centre.
What to bring
- The exact same ID you used when booking — this is the most common reason people are turned away.
- Your booking confirmation (helpful).
Check the latest list on GOV.UK and your confirmation email.
At the centre
You'll check in, your ID will be verified and your photo may be taken. Personal items are usually stored away. You may get a short practice screen before the real questions start.
During the test
24 questions, 45 minutes. You can move back and forth and change answers before submitting.
After the test
You'll be told if you passed. Keep the pass details safe — you need them for your application.
