How to book the Life in the UK Test
Updated 2026-10-31 · Unofficial guide · Always confirm details with GOV.UK
You book the Life in the UK Test online through the official GOV.UK booking service, at least 3 days in advance. You need an email address, a valid ID and a debit or credit card for the £50 fee.
Before you start
- An email address
- A debit or credit card (fee: £50)
- An accepted form of ID — GOV.UK lists accepted documents such as a passport, biometric residence permit/card or travel document. You must bring the same ID you used to book.
If your name on the ID differs from your booking, or you have no accepted ID, check GOV.UK before booking — you may be turned away and lose your fee.
Step-by-step
- Go to the GOV.UK page Book the Life in the UK Test (only use the official link).
- Create an account and enter your details exactly as they appear on your ID.
- Choose a test centre — there are over 30 across the UK — and an available date at least 3 days ahead.
- Pay the £50 fee and keep your confirmation email.
Watch out for unofficial booking sites
Some websites charge extra to "book for you". The official booking service is on GOV.UK. Practice sites like ours do not book tests.
Changing or cancelling
GOV.UK explains the rules for cancelling and refunds — currently you can get a refund if you cancel at least 3 days before the test. Check the latest rules before cancelling.
